Our History

RemixEducation is a non-profit education organization operating in Maryland and Washington, DC.

The mission of RemixEducation is to provide solutions for first generation college students through technology, social innovation and mentoring. Founded by educator Shayla Adams, RemixEducation currently organizes the Young Leaders Scholarship, mentoring programs H.E.R Story. Remixeducation has provided positive youth development programming to over 150 students and young adults. With the use of social media, RemixEducation provides updates on education reforms and news,informational resources for students going through the college process, as well as resources for teachers. The future for the organization includes expanding to international programs, recreational programs, and adding recipients to the Young Leaders Scholarship. RemixEducation plans to become an international non-profit providing aid to students and teachers who lack aid resources.

Founder- Shayla Adams-Stafford

Shayla Adams-Stafford is an Educator in Washington D.C., and has served as a History teacher and Instructional Coach for the past 9 years. Shayla is a Nationally Board certified teacher, and has been recognized by the White House for her achievements in Project Based Learning. She currently sits on the National Faculty of the Buck Institute for Education, which enables her to share her passion for PBL with teachers across the country. Shayla received her bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies at Wellesley College in Massachusetts, and received a master's degree in Teaching from Duke University in North Carolina.  Shayla has experience writing curriculum and test items on the local, state and national level, most recently working on the "Advocates for Peace" curriculum in collaboration with the Bezos Foundation.  She also conducts a weekly podcast, PBL in Practice, available on all podcast platforms.
